Edinburgh Steiners Beat George Heriot’s In First Basketball Match

This past Friday, our U14 Boys Basketball Team played an inaugural game at George Heriot’s. Some apprehension and nerves were in the air, as well as plenty of positive anticipation as we gathered and ran some warm up drills in their big gymnasium. Many of our boys were playing on a full size court for the first time.
We made a great start with a  Liam ‘lefty lay-up’ and never looked back. Although Heriot’s closed the gap by half time, we re-focused, particularly on defence, took our time, made better decisions on offense and above all worked really hard. We carried this approach through the 4th quarter and ran out winners 30 points to 18. Hats off to all the boys it was a really fine team effort.
Liam MacDougald scored 12 points, Angus McLeod 11, Julian Gairns Guillo 3, Lewis Hooper 2 and Krishna Dwivedi 2 with Milo Tsvinariya-Schia, Simon Hamilton-Velazquez, Noah Emonts-Holley, Edward Marsh and Calin Mitchell, also contributing greatly to the all round performance and outcome. Unfortunately Muhammad Buxton could not be with us.
It was a great pleasure and lots of fun to coach the team and to witness how they responded so positively to instructions and how hard-working and committed they all were.
A very big thank you to Ines Berenguer for all she has done and is doing for our Basketball Program. Let’s hope, as we intend, to help it grow with  more games through next term and into the future.
We had great support from ESS pupils, particularly Class 9 and many parents too, thank you! Thanks also to Heriot’s for not only hosting but also enabling their Coach to referee the game instead of being with his team on the sideline as I was able to be.
Congratulations Team, you thoroughly deserved the W!
